Jesse Eisenberg Talks Lex Luthor in BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN
Jesse Eisenberg recently did an interview with IGN, and in it he opened up a little bit about playing Lex Luthor in Zack Snyder's Batman Vs. Superman. He's been pretty quiet about the movie since he has been cast, but right now he's out promoting his new film, The Double, so of course he's going to be bombarded with questions about it by the press.
Just yesterday we got our first look at Ben Affleck as Batman, and it seems like a lot of people are loving it. I personally don't think Batman has ever looked so badass on the big screen. It's going to be crazy watching him and Superman going up against Lex in the upcoming film.
When asked how much of a game changer his Lex Luthor will be from the versions of the character that we've seen in the past, Eisenberg says:
"It'll definitely be played by a different person, but I don't know really how different this -- I don't know the history as well as the people making the movie, so I guess it's up to them to figure out how much they want to separate it from previous incarnations. But I will treat it like it's its own role. There's no way to play the history of the character played by other people, unless you do some kind of wink, but that doesn't seem like a responsible way to act. So I will just do it as though it's a character, in the same way you do a movie like The Double, which is a smaller movie -- but you just kind of treat it like a character, and that's probably the best course of action, I think."
A lot of fans have been wondering if he's going to have the classic bald look in the film. When asked about it, he couldn't answer saying, "I'm not allowed to say anything, because of their privacy." It makes me wonder what Eisenberg thinks of all the fan art featuring him as a bald Lex. The actor goes on to talk about the character, and why he took on the role.
"The character's really good, so it's like doing anything else. They make a lot of those movies, so if you're an actor in things, you will probably cross paths with it at some point. But the character's written really well. It's a really great role. The fact that it's in a big movie, you know, it seems like a character that would be in any kind of movie. It just happens to be in a bigger, flashier kind of thing."
I think Eisenberg is going to be an awesome villain in Batman Vs. Superman. I can't wait to see what Snyder and the other filmmakers portray this character. The movie is set to open up on May 6th, 2016… I seriously hate that we have to wait that long.
