Jet Li’s Hong Kong Martiat Arts Action Classics Get The 4K Upgrade They Deserve
Jet Li’s Hong Kong action classics are getting the 4K treatment, thanks to a new deal with Shout! Studios. Five of his most popular films including Fist of Legend (1994), Tai Chi Master (1993), The Legend (1993), The Legend 2 (1993), and The Bodyguard from Beijing (1994) will hit digital platforms on February 18.
I loved watching these Jet Li films and it’s pretty cool that fans will have the opportunity to experience these martial arts masterpieces in a fresh new way.
These films showcase Li at the peak of his career and the collection is a reminder of why Li became a global action icon. Li said in a statement: “Movie fans can now easily enjoy these entertaining films in stunning 4K on various digital platforms.
“I hope a new generation of audiences will be introduced to these action classics that give a glimpse to the talent of directors, writers, actors, stunt people, and crew that come from the rich history of Hong Kong cinema.”
This new distribution deal gives Shout! Studios worldwide rights (with exceptions in China, the U.K., and Indonesia), covering everything from physical media to streaming platforms.
The films will be available individually and as a digital bundle, exclusively on Apple TV and Fandango at Home. This marks the first time these titles have been officially packaged together in one release.
This move comes as part of Shout! Studios’ broader efforts to bring classic Hong Kong cinema back into the spotlight. They recently acquired rights to the Golden Princess film library, a massive collection of 156 Hong Kong films that have been difficult to access in Western markets for years.
With more announcements expected in the coming months—including potential special features and promotional events—this 4K release is just the beginning of a much-needed revival for Hong Kong action cinema.
For longtime fans and newcomers alike, this is a great opportunity to witness some of the best martial arts filmmaking ever put to screen, now in 4K clarity.
