Jim Carrey Originally Wanted Nicolas Cage to Star in DUMB & DUMBER With Him

Here’s a fun bit of movie trivia for you that was recently shared by Nicolas Cage. It turns out that before Jeff Daniels signed on to star alongside Jim Carrey in Dumb & Dumber, Carrey wanted Cage to take on that role!

In a recent interview with GQ, Cage was responding to some queries from fans on the internet ,and someone brought up a rumor that Gary Oldman and Cage were the original actors considered for the roles of Harry and Lloyd in the film. Cage responded to that with the following:

"I know Jim [Carrey] wanted me to be in [Dumb & Dumber] with him, but I wanted to do a little movie called Leaving Las Vegas instead."

While I loved Daniels in the role of Harry, I can’t help but wonder what it would have been like with Cage in the role. I think he would have been completely off the chain! Just imagine all of Harry’s scenes and think about what Cage would have done, like that hilarious bathroom scene! Cage as Harry would have been fun.

In the end, Cage went out and made Leaving Las Vegas and won an Oscar for Best Actor, so he made the right decision.
