Jim Henson's THE DARK CRYSTAL: AGE OF RESISTANCE Prequel Series Lands at Netflix and There's a Teaser!
The Jim Henson Company has been developing a prequel series to the classic 1982 film The Dark Crystal called The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance. That series is set to air on Netflix! The series is scheduled to start shooting in the fall, but we have a teaser trailer for you to watch showing what is to come, and it's awesome! It shows off some of the pre-production work being done including concept art and the building of the creatures that will be used. If you're a fan of the original film, this is definitely something to get excited about!
The fantasy adventure series takes place many years before the events of the first film. There will be ten episodes in the series and it will be created using "an ensemble of fantastical, state-of-the-art creatures created by Jim Henson’s Creature Shop and Brian Froud, the original feature’s conceptual designer."
Feature film director Louis Leterrier (Now You See Me, The Incredible Hulk) is an executive producer on the series, and he will also direct. Cindy Holland, Vice President of Original Content at Netflix had this to say about the project in a statement:
"The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance will combine the art of puppetry perfected by The Jim Henson Company, with Louis’ vision, powerful storytelling and a mix of cutting-edge digital imagery and visual effects. I can’t wait for families around the world to see how we bring these unique characters to life."
Lisa Henson, CEO of The Jim Henson Company added:
"Louis Leterrier is passionate about the world of The Dark Crystal and has an incredible creative vision for the series. He brings this passion to every facet of the production as he leads the talented team of artists and writers that are bringing this entire universe to life. Netflix has a deep respect for my father’s original work and the many people it inspired. They are the perfect partners to create this next epic chapter in The Dark Crystal story for new fans and the loyal fans who have waited so long for more adventures from this world.”
The series will be written by the co-executive producers Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews (Life in a Year), and Javier Grillo-Marxuach (Lost, The 100). I'm so excited about this!
