J.J. Abrams Confirms That The Film Adaptation of PORTAL is Still in Active Development
It’s been a few years since we’ve had any kind of update on producer J.J. Abrams’ film adaptation of the hit video game Portal. Well, you’ll be happy to learn that the movie’s still in active development! Abrams confirmed the news himself in an interview with IGN, saying:
“We actually do have a script that’s being written for the Portal movie now at [Warner Bros.]. We’re really excited about the take and the pitch, so it feels like that thing’s finally on the rails.”
It’s crazy that it’s been eight years since this project was first announced! At least it’s now finally making some movement. There are no details on who wrote the script or who will direct the film, but Abrams went on to talk about the film’s potential, saying:
“It’s got enormous potential for a lot of reasons, one of which is because of the limited narrative of the game, as ingeniously told as it is, the potential of it is so huge. It’s gonna be super fun.”
The first Portal game was released in 2007, and it follows a test subject named Chell, who is forced to navigate a rival research company’s laboratories armed with a device that can open portals through space while being taunted by a power hungry AI.
It’ll be interesting to see what exactly Abrams and the creative team behind this adaptation will do with the film. Abrams was also working on a Half-Life movie since 2016, but Abrams said that they are not working on that film anymore.
