J.J. Abrams Set to Produce a Live-Action Hot Wheels Film
It was recently announced that J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot will team with Warner Bros. to produce a live-action Hot Wheels movie. Hot Wheels is the number one brand made by Mattel, and is one of the most beloved toys in the world. Deadline gave us the following very limited plot synopsis:
“Described as a high-throttle actioner, which will showcase some of the world’s hottest and sleekest cars, monster trucks and motorcycles.”
I understand that this isn’t much information to go on, but that is what we have so far. Just for the record, I am torn about this movie. On one hand, I feel like this should be an animated film. With the animation that was seen in the movie The Bad Guys, which was a fantastic movie, they could do great things with the Hot Wheels franchise. On the other hand, to be able to see some of the iconic Hot Wheels designs in live action would be quite a spectacle.
I would really like to see this be a successful franchise. Like most kids, I had my favorite cars that I was able to pass down to my kids, and they are creating their own collections. I am in no way saying that this is going to be an easily made blockbuster, I just want it to be fun.
