J.J. Abrams Talks About CLOVERFIELD 4 and Says it's a "Crazy Movie"
J.J. Abrams seems to be enjoying his Cloverfield franchise and the mystery that surrounds it. The Cloverfield Paradox made a surprising debut on Netflix after the Super Bowl. The movie was met with a lot of mixed reviews. Some people downright hated it. A lot of people wondered what the fate of the fourth Cloverfield film would be after Paradox was released.
That film is tentatively titled Overlord and it's already done shooting. As of right now, the plan is to release it on the big screen. Abrams recently spoke with Digital Spy about the project, but first explains that it was fun to release The Cloverfield Paradox without anyone knowing:
"It didn't really feel like it was any fun to release [The Cloverfield Paradox] with everybody knowing that it was coming. Could we possibly do this and keep it a secret and release the thing in the way we did? That felt to me like that's the spirit of these movies, that's the spirit of the series. So to talk about what the next one is and what's going to happen sort of feels counter intuitive."
He goes on to hype Overlord without giving us much information, but he does say that it's a crazy movie.
“Overlord… first of all, it’s something that I can’t wait for you to see ’cause the director, Julius Avery, has done an amazing job on it. But the specifics, you know, we should wait and see. But that’s really a crazy movie.”
I'm sure a lot of fans hope that it turns out better than Paradox. The movie certainly sounds like it will tell an interesting story!
The film stars Wyatt Russell and Jovan Adepo as American paratroopers that are dropped into enemy territory outside of Normandy during the D-Day invasion. It's not until they arrive at their target they realize that they are a part of something more complicated than a simple military operation. They are forced into battle against supernatural forces as part of a Nazi experiment.
Overlord was directed by Julius Avery (Son of a Gun) from a screenplay written by Billy Ray and Mark L. Smith (Captain Phillips and The Revenant). Oh, yeah! There might be a fifth Cloverfield film as well!
