Jodie Whittaker Rumored to Be Leaving DOCTOR WHO After Next Season
According to a new report from Daily Mirror, Jodie Whittaker might be leaving the BBC’s classic sci-fi series Doctor Who. According to the report, the actress told the “bosses she intends to stick to the traditional rule of leaving after three stints in the TARDIS, like the majority of her predecessors.” An insider said:
“It’s all very hush-hush but it is known on set that Jodie is leaving and they are gearing up for a regeneration. Her departure is top secret but at some point over the coming months the arrival of the 14th Doctor will need to be filmed. It’s very exciting.”
Whitiker is the 13th Doctor in the series and the first woman to play the character. She’s been great in the role, so if this is true, it would be sad to see her go, but wouldn’t really be out of the ordinary, and we knew the time would eventually come.
Variety reached out for an update from the BBC, and a spokesperson said they won’t be commenting on “any speculation around Jodie’s future on the show.”
The report also goes on to say that Whittaker’s co-stars Bradley Walsh and Tosin Cole are set to leave the show as well (SPOILER! That appears to have happened in the New Year Special, which may give credence to the report. —ed), but that showrunner Chris Chibnall will remain to continue to develop the series. Comedian John Bishop was recently cast in the series as a character named Dan, and I imagine he will most likely stick around for after the 14th Doctor arrives.
What are your thoughts on Jodie Whittaker? What do you think about her portrayal as The Doctor? Will you be sad to see her go?
