Joe Russo Discusses Why Thanos isn't Wearing Armor in AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR and The Staggering Epic Scale
From everything we've seen of Josh Brolin's Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War, one of the most notable things is that he's not sporting his armor, and there's a reason for that. That reason is connected to his mission of collecting the Infinity Stones for his Infinity gauntlet.
Director Joe Russo explained the lack of armor in an interview with IGN, saying:
"[Thanos] has a more casual approach in this film, and it's very philosophical for him. It's part of his character definition. It's a spiritual journey for him to collect the Stones, and one with which he doesn't need armor. Once he starts acquiring the Stones, he doesn't need armor in the same way he did when he was a war lord. It's a very symbolic costume."
Fans who extended D23 and Comic-Con earlier this month have seen the power of the Infinity Gauntlet as the footage shows Thanos destroying a planet with it. If you think that is awesome, it's nothing compared to what Joe and Anthony Russo have planned! That's just the tip of the Iceberg. Russo goes on to talk about the epicness of the film and teases the insanity of the third actor of the movie.
"It's a staggering level of scale in the films. Sometimes we're working on the third act in this movie and I'm like, 'How are we going to pull this off?' It's so big," [Thanos] has this incredible power -- he has universe altering power if he gets his hands on the Stones -- so I think people are going to be surprised at the scale in the movie."
If it's more surprising than what we saw in the Infinity War footage that was screened for fans, I can't even imagine what they have in store for the third act of the movie. The footage we saw looked like the freakin' climax of the film!
