Joel McHale Is Set to Play Starman in DC's STARGIRL Series
Joel McHale has been cast in DC Universe’s Stargirl, and he will take on the role of Sylvester Pemberton, a.k.a. Starman, in the series.
McHale is perfect for this role, who is described as “Golden Age Starman.” Variety offers details on the character, describing him as a “courageous and confident superhero,” and he is a “member of the Justice Society of America. He wields a mysterious anti-gravity weapon called the cosmic staff and has a longtime sidekick named Stripesy, who is better known as Courtney Whitmore’s stepfather, Pat Dugan.”
I’m a fan of McHale, and I’m curious to see how he brings the character of Starman to life in the series. The actor joins the previously cast Brec Bassinger as Stargirl, and Anjelika Washington in a mysterious role, along with Christopher James Baker and Yvette Monreal.
“Stargirl follows high school sophomore Courtney Whitmore as she inspires an unlikely group of young heroes to stop the villains of the past. This new drama reimagines Stargirl and the very first superhero team, the Justice Society of America, in an unpredictable series. The project focuses on the character that started executive producer Geoff Johns’ career as a comic book writer when he created her in 1999, lovingly inspired by his late sister, who was killed in a 1996 plane explosion.”
Stargirl was originally created by Geoff Johns, who will serve as an executive producer as well as writer for the first episode. Other executive producers will include Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter.
