Joel Schumacher is Making a BATMAN & ROBIN Comic Book Sequel
So, uh… for some reason filmmaker Joel Schumacher is looking to make a sequel to his terrible 1990 Batman & Robin movie! This is one of the most ridiculous things that I've ever heard. I don't know why, but apparently DC comics will purposely publish a 12-issue comic that will continue that terrible story. I have absolutely no desire ever to revisit any of the Batman movies that Schumacher made, not even in comic book form.
Schumacher will write the comic, and it will be based on the script for a fifth Batman movie he was supposed to direct, called Batman Triumphant. That movie was apparently going to close out a Batman trilogy that Schmacher had planned. Lucky for us, Warner Bros. didn't waste their money on it.
In case you're wondering what we missed out on, according to Batman Wiki the main villain of Batman Triumphant was going to be the Scarecrow, and his sidekick would have been Harley Quinn, who was the Joker's daughter looking for revenge in this version. The Joker was also set to return as a fear toxin-induced hallucination in Batman's mind.
The news comes from Bleeding Cool, who also says the art will be done by comic artist Dustin Nguyen. So there is an upside to this. I love Nguyen's work. The big question is... will the bat suit include the nipples that everyone loathed in the film!? I still don't understand why they ever had those nipples on there.
George Clooney recently attended New York Comic Con and while he was there moderator Chris Hardwick kind of teased him about his portrayal of Batman. Clooney said with a smile,
“I’ve seen all the comments sections on all you guys… I met Adam West back there just now, and I said, ‘Hey, I’m really sorry.’ We fist-pumped and I was like, ‘Just hit me.’ I’m sorry about the nipples on the suit. And he was like, ‘Oh, it’s O.K., old chum.’"
Are any of you excited to hear that Batman & Robin is getting a comic book sequel, and will you be reading it when it comes out?
