Joey King to Star in and Executive Produce Feature Adaptation of UGLIES at Netflix, McG Directing
Joey King has had a great run lately at Netflix with the success of her film The Kissing Booth, its recent sequel, and the announcement of its third installment, which has already filmed and is set to premiere at the streamer in 2021. Now the actress is taking on the adaptation of Scott Westerfeld’s International best-selling-dystopian fantasy novel, Uglies. McG (We Are Marshall, The Babysitter) has signed on to direct from a script adapted by Krista Vernoff.
King will both star in and executive produce the film, which she aggressively pursued as she is a big fan of the novel. “The story is set in a world in which a compulsory operation at sixteen wipes out physical differences and makes everyone pretty by conforming to an ideal standard of beauty.”
