John Boyega and Netflix Sign Deal to Make Foreign Language Films With Stories Based in West and East Africa
Star Wars actor John Boyega has made a career for himself after starring in the final trilogy of the Skywalker Saga. He has a lot of projects on the horizon, and they aren’t looking to slow down anytime soon. The actor recently signed a deal with Netflix, through his production company, UpperRoom Productions, that will allow him to develop multiple foreign language films, which will focus on stories based in West and East African countries.
Boyega said of the partnership:
“I am thrilled to partner with Netflix to develop a slate of non-English language feature films focused on African stories and my team and I are excited to develop original material. We are proud to grow this arm of our business with a company that shares our vision.”
Netflix is looking to branch out in an effort to tell more stories from Africa, and this is the perfect partnership to make it happen. Boyega is currently executive-producing the South African crime-thriller God Is Good.
David Kosse, Vice President of International Film at Netflix commented:
“Africa has a rich history in storytelling and for Netflix, this partnership with John and UpperRoom presents an opportunity to further our investment in the continent while bringing unique African stories to our members both in Africa and around the world.”
Sounds like a perfect fit for new stories from African countries to come to light. We will report as soon as we have more info on the details for the films.
