John Boyega Discusses STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER Explaining That The Resistance is Broken

We’ve got some new details to share with you regarding Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and the state that the Resistance is in when the story begins. This information comes from John Boyega while talking to Yahoo!.

Star Wars fans were treated with some pretty awesome stuff from D23 this past weekend. We got a badass trailer for The Mandalorian, and we got to see a tease of Rey turning to the Dark Side in some new footage from The Rise of Skywalker.

While talking about the upcoming J.J. Abrams directed film, he explains that when we see our heroes again, they will be hurting and the Resistance that they are a part of is broken:

“The Resistance are broke, they don't have weapons. Not a lot of allies. You know how they were left after Last Jedi. It's not a great situation. ... Darkness, for the first time in a long time, has taken like 10 million leaps forward.”

He went on to say there’s a conflict brewing within the Resistance:

“And for us to deal with that as Resistance heroes is a bit of madness. And there’s conflict between us, between ourselves, figuring out our past. And all of that is just approached in a magnificent way and I can't wait for it.”

Like all of you, I’m incredibly curious about how this final chapter in the Skywalker saga is going to play out and come to an end. We’ve heard time and time again from people involved that this ending is going to be incredible and that the fans are going to love it.

Well, with the way Star Wars fandom is now, there’s no way everyone is going to be happy. I’m sure a lot of fans are going to be happy and satisfied with the conclusion, but we all know that there’s going to be some who hate it. It’s inevitable.

I’ve liked what I’ve seen from the movie so far, and I like what Boyega is bringing to the state of the Resistance. It’s going to be really interesting to see how Rey’s story arc plays out, especially with the dark turn that is teased. I’m also excited to see how exactly Emperor Palpatine fits into the story!

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will hit theaters on December 20th.
