John Boyega Shares His Different Vision for STAR WARS Sequel Trilogy and Slams Luke’s Fate
The Star Wars sequel trilogy is known by fans as the least cohesive films in the franchise, and one of its stars, John Boyega, not only agrees, but thinks he could have helped if he had been entrusted as producer for the entire sequel saga. The actor played the role of Finn in the sequel trilogy, starting with 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens. During an appearance at Florida Supercon 2025, he shared his vision for the trio of films.
According to Popverse, Boyega said at the convention, “If I was a producer on Star Wars from the beginning, you would have had a whole completely different thing.”
Boyega went on to say that he would not have gotten “rid of Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, all these people. We’re not doing that,” adding, “The first thing we’re going to do is fulfill their story, fulfill their legacy. We’re going to make a good moment of handing on the baton.”
The actor also noted that the new characters would not “just grab stuff and know what to do with it. No. You’ve got to struggle like every other character in this franchise. I’d do that.”
Boyega said he would look to the Old Republic stories “and see what we can add to the continuation of that. I would definitely want to see Force Unleashed stories in there,” he continued. “I would try to expand the Star Wars universe as much as possible while respecting the lore. If we’re expanding the lore, we have to do it in within the respective boundaries that stay true.”
Boyega added, “But Luke Skywalker wouldn’t be disappearing on a rock. Hell no. Standing there and he’s, like, a projector? I would want to give those characters way more way more.”
I had my doubts, but he honestly sounds like he has a clearer vision than what we ended up with. It’s too bad the filmmakers didn’t get more of his perspective as a fan while making the movies.
