John Boyega Shuts Down Marvel Rumors and Has No Interest in Being in Those Films Right Now

There have been rumors online claiming that John Boyega is joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe and that he’s already shot a secret Marvel role in The Marvels. Well, in a recent interview with Men’s Health, the actor shut those rumors down and explained that he has no interest in starring in a Marvel movie right now. When asked about that he said:

“That’s not in the vision for me now. I want to do nuanced things…I want to donate my services to original indie films that come with new, fresh ideas, because I know it’s real hard to top ‘Iron Man’ in that universe.”

He makes a great point. It really is hard to top Iron Man, and Marvel hasn’t really been able to top what they did in The Infinity Saga. They set an extremely high standard with those films, a standard that will be hard to stay consistent with.

Boyega’s agent went on to share that the actor’s goal has always been “to disrupt the industry and also to make history. For John, it was never about trying to fit into the box. He wants to be the outline of the box. For John, it’s all about accountability. He doesn’t want to be defined by any stereotypical roles.”

With that being Boyega’s goal, it makes sense that he would have no interest in being in a Marvel movie.
