John Boyega Won't Read Colin Trevorrow's STAR WARS: EPISODE IX Script Because He'll Be "Heartbroken"

As you know, director Colin Trevorrow was developing the ninth film in the Skywalker Star Wars saga, which would have been titled Star Wars: Duel of the Fates. This movie would have been much better than what J.J. Abrams delivered with Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

Details have been shared for that story and some concept art was shared giving us a visualization of Trevorrow’s vision. The script for his film is online and can be read anytime anyone wants, and it’s a shame that Lucasfilm didn’t make that film. I don’t think it would have saved the sequel trilogy, but it would’ve been better.

In a recent interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Star Wars star John Boyega talks about his excitement over the initial plans for Duel of the Fates and explains that he’ll never read the script because it will leave him heartbroken. He said:

"I can’t read that one, because I’ll be heartbroken. I had a sitdown with Colin. That was one of the best Star Wars meetings I had ever had. It felt like two nerds that were like, ‘Yes, that’s what we want to see!’ I saw the art, the Stormtrooper rebellion. That stuff was cold."

Boyega also said that he hopes Lucasfilm will give Trevorrow an "opportunity" to return to work on the Star Wars franchise somewhere down the line.

One thing is for sure, Boyega's character Finn was completely wasted in those last two Star Wars movies. They introduced him and he had the potential to be a great and interesting character, and then they just didn’t do anything interesting with him. It’s a shame.
