John Carpenter Teases That a THEY LIVE Sequel is in Development
John Carpenter’s They Live is sci-fi classic that fans love. I remember the first time I saw that movie! I was completely hooked because I had never seen anything like it before. Well, turns out, there might be a sequel in development.
During a recent interview with Den of Geek, Carpenter teased that there is something going on with a They Live sequel. When the filmmaker was asked how he would approach a modern-day They Live movie, the filmmaker provided the following answer:
“Well, I’m not gonna tell you about that, because it might be closer to reality than you think.”
He then added:
“The sequel is, well, we’ll see. We’ll just have to see.”
I’m intrigued! With the first They Live film being a commentary on Reaganomics in the 1980s, it’s not hard to imagine that a They Live sequel set in a modern era providing commentary on what President Trump is doing because Hollywood loves Trump.
There was a remake of They Live in development with director Matt Reeves at the helm that was going to be called Resistance, but that fell apart. I’d be much more interested in a sequel from Carpenter rather than a remake, though.
There’s no guarantee that we’ll see a They Live sequel, but the fact that Carpenter has obviously got something cooking for it is pretty cool. Would you like to see Carpenter make a sequel to They Live?
