John Carpenter Will Direct The TALES FOR A HALLOWEEN NIGHT Pilot Episode
If you're a fan of Halloween director John Carpenter, you'll be happy to hear that he is coming out of retirement to direct the pilot episode of a new anthology series coming to SyFy called Tales for a Halloween Night. Carpenter hasn't directed a film in seven years, and although this isn't a movie, it's still cool that he's coming back to direct a story.
Carpenter has been in the news a lot recently because of his music and the fact that he's producing and consulting on the new Halloween sequel film with Danny McBride, David Gordon Green, and Jamie Lee Curtis. He also might end up scoring that film as well, which would be great!
During a recent interview with Rue Morgue, Carpenter’s producing partner and wife Sandy King confirms that he will helm the pilot episode and also help bring on more great horror directors to tackle the other episode in the horror anthology series:
“He would direct the pilot, at least. And then we’ll hopefully bring on some great horror directors—and just great directors—so that it’ll be a high-end show. We want anything that has our brand associated with it to be a satisfying experience for readers, watchers, whatever we’re doing.”
The series is an adaptation of Carpenter’s comic book series of the same name, which was published in 2015. Here’s the official synopsis for that:
From John Carpenter, the man who brought you the cult classic horror film Halloween and all of the scares beyond comes the ultimate graphic novel anthology of tales to warm your toes by on a dark and stormy October night! Carpenter brings together storytellers from the worlds of movies, novels and comics for a collection of tales featuring graveyards, sunken ships, creepy crawlers and ghosts to haunt your dreams at night!
Carpenter had this to say in a previous statement about working with Universal on the series:
“I’m excited to partner with Universal Cable Productions on this venture into television. On one hand it’s a return home to Universal where I have fond memories, and on the other, it’s a step into the future with great new creative partners in programming.”
As a fan of horror anthology films and series, I'm excited to see how this show turns out!
