John Carpenter Would Love To Direct Another Movie, But He's Too Busy Playing Video Games
I would love to see John Carpenter direct another horror movie one day. This is the guy who brought us films such as Halloween, The Thing, They Live and Escape From New York. That guy has made some pretty wicked classics and it would be great to see him jump back in the game and direct another horror film. He hasn’t made a film since 2010 with The Ward.
He’s been keeping busy, though. He helped out with the new Halloween movie as a consultant and he also created the music for it. He’s also released a couple of albums, directed a music video, and has been watching basketball and playing video games. While talking to EW, the filmmaker revealed what the two most important things in his life are right now, saying:
“There are two important things in my life. Basketball, when the season starts, and video games. And to play video games you have to sit in a chair and not really get up and do anything. I love that. That’s my job now, to sit around and do nothing!”
So, if Carpenter could ever pull himself away from video games, would he want to direct a new movie? Of course! It just has to be the right kind of project:
“I would love to direct something, if it’s the right thing to do at my age. I’m not going to make another Thing, I’ll tell you that. I’m not going to the Arctic again. I’m not going to do that. I want to take it easy. I want to enjoy myself!”
When asked what kind of movie he would make, he said that he’d love to shoot something in Europe:
“I’ve wanted to do something in Europe and I’ve wanted to do something in Venice. I haven’t gotten a story for it though. What a place! What a strange place! And Venice is sinking! Wow. But I don’t know. I’d love to do something in Europe. That would be fun to do.”
Sounds like an excuse to take a vacation to me. But, if he wants to shoot a movie in Europe he should do it! I’d like to see him make at least one final film. I bet there’s one more horror masterpiece in him that he could give his fans.
So, if he could pull himself away from the easy life of watching basketball and playing video games to make another movie, that would be great!
