John Carpenter's THE THING Coming To Theaters For Its 40 Anniversary!
I’ve never had the opportunity to watch John Carpenter’s classic 1982 sci-fi horror film The Thing in a theater on the big screen. But, it looks like that opportunity has finally presented itself! Carpenter announced that The Thing is coming back to theaters for a limited two-day run for its 40th anniversary.
The movie will be available to watch in theaters on June 19th, 2022, and June 22nd, 2022. If you want to grab tickets, they’re on sale now at Fathom Events.
My parents have pictures of me as a toddler wearing a t-shirt for The Thing that they got as a promotional item at the theater they saw it at all those years ago. My parents were obviously steering me in the right direction when it came to movies.
The Thing is one of those movies that no matter how many times I watch it, it’s a joy and it still holds up after all these years. I especially love those old-school practical special effects! It’ll be a lot of fun watch this movie on the big screen!
Director John Carpenter (Halloween) teams Kurt Russell's outstanding performance with incredible visual effects to create a chilling version of the classic The Thing. Set in the winter of 1982 at a research station in Antarctica, a twelve-man research team finds an alien being that has fallen from the sky and has remained buried in the snow for over 100,000 years. Soon it is unfrozen and unleashed, creating havoc and terror as it changes forms and becomes one of them.
The event will also screen a documentary for the film, Terror Takes Shape. I also included a trailer that was released for the event. You can check it out below Carpenter’s announcement video.
