John Cho, John Boyega, Willow Smith, and More Join Anime-Inspired Sci-Fi Monster Film SLIME

Jeron Braxton, the Sundance prize-winning animator-director, is making his feature debut with the wild new animated sci-fi film Slime, and he’s bringing some serious star power along for the ride.

The voice cast now includes Willow Smith, Teyana Taylor, Anna Sawai, John Cho, and John Boyega, joining Scott “Kid Cudi” Mescudi, who is also producing and scoring the project.

Smith is set to lead the story as Muna, with voice work kicking off next month. While details on the other roles are being kept secret for now, the ensemble already feels stacked with talent.

Set in a near-future dystopia, Slime follows Muna, an optimistic but broke young woman who signs up for a clinical trial. Things spiral fast when she’s injected with slime from a mysterious creature, unlocking destructive powers she can’t control.

Forced on the run, she kidnaps Glenn (voiced by Mescudi), the lab worker responsible for her condition, and the two head out on a dangerous journey through a collapsing world in search of safety and a cure.

The big question the film teases is whether Muna is becoming humanity’s deadliest threat or its last hope for survival.

The movie is being described as an anime-inspired, pre-apocalyptic monster story with retro video game aesthetics. And with Kid Cudi creating an original soundtrack and score, fans can expect the vibe to be as bold and experimental as the visuals.

Hammerstone Studios is financing the project alongside Script 2 Screen, with production also handled by Mad Solar and Capstone Pictures.

Slime sounds like it could end up being a truly unique entry in the animated sci-fi genre.
