John Krasinski Says He's Currently Writing the Sequel To A QUIET PLACE

We’ve known for awhile that Paramount Pictures was developing to sequel to the hit horror film A Quiet Place. It was previously reported that writers Bryan Woods and Scott Beck were developing ideas for the sequel. Now John Krasinski has come with with the story and is currently writing the script.

During a recent Q&A via The Hollywood Reporter, explained that he initially told Paramount to do the sequel with somebody else since he “had this small idea for a sequel, but I didn’t think it would go anywhere.”

He went on to say that after the studio and producer Andrew Form heard some pitches, Form told Krasinki to think about his idea a little longer. “And then I thought, ‘This might really work.’ So, I’m currently writing the sequel.”

He didn’t say what the idea was, but he did previously share an idea he had where the sequel would explore who was on the other end of the fires in the fist film.

"The thing that I loved in the movie. Where my mind kept wandering as we were making it, was the question of who was on the other end of those fires, when the father lights the fire and in the distance, those other fires light up. How did those people survive? How did that old man survive?

"In the extreme, these characters are going through, there’s no room to think about that. They’re there, there’s an old man who’s about to scream, they just have to deal with that. I think it would be interesting to see what’s going on elsewhere at this same time."

I assume this is the idea that he is going with, but we’ll just have to wait and see. That’s an interesting way to move forward franchise. I'd like to see a story that focuses on a completely different group of survivors.

It’s funny, Krasinski never really thought about making a sequel, he’s said, "To be perfectly honest, it was never really on my mind while we were making it. I never really thought of it as an expanded world; I always thought of it as a one-off."

But now, here he is writing the sequel and I’m sure fans are curious to see what exactly he comes up with. What would you like to see a sequel to A Quiet Place?

The sequel is scheduled to arrive in theaters on May 15th, 2020.
