John Larroquette Returns to THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE Franchise to Narrate the New Film

John Larroquette is best known for his role as Dan Fielding on the ‘80s sitcom Night Court. What some of you may not know is that he was a part of the original 1974 film The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. He was the guy who narrated the opening of the film. Well, he will be back to narrate the opening of Netflix’s new Texas Chainsaw Massacre, which serves as a direct sequel to the original movie.

Larroquette previously returned to the franchise for the 2003 reboot, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. It’s pretty cool that he was asked to come back for this one. When talking about bringing the actor back for this film, director David Blue Garcia said:

“It felt important to honor the original ‘TCM’ at every opportunity. John’s voice is iconic in the original opening and we thought it would help set the perfect tone in our own intro. It’s also a subtle way of letting the fans know they’re in good hands.

“I can’t wait for fans to analyze and find all of the callbacks, some of which aren’t even intentional. I swear some stuff just happened and it’s kind of freaky. I will say that we shot with one of the original, working Poulan chainsaws from the original film. On set, every morning I would walk by the prop cart, touch it and get its blessing for the day. I wanted some of its ’70s magic.”

This sequel “returns to the roots of the Hooper and Kim Henkel creation that was considered one of the scariest films of its era, even though most of the splatter was implied and not shown.” It’s explained that the film “seeks to pick up where the Hooper and Kim Henkel film initially left off, bringing the most notorious horror franchise back to life in the same bold and provocative manner that it was first introduced to the world.”
