John Leguizamo Was Originally Cast as The Vulture in SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING
Here’s a bit of interesting movie trivia that has come to light regarding Marvel and Sony’s Spider-Man: Homecoming. It turns out that John Leguizamo was originally cast in the role of Adrian Toomes, a.k.a. The Vulture in the movie!
As you know, Michael Keaton ended up in the role, but there was a long process to get him on board. At one point, he turned the role down and so the studio had to cast another actor in the role. That actor was Leguizamo. During an interview with CB, the actor revealed they negotiated the deal and he was set to play the character, but then Keaton decided that he wanted to be in the movie. The actor explained:
"I was supposed to be the Vulture. We had negotiated and I was about to play him, and they said that Michael Keaton wanted it back and they asked me if I would give it up. I said, 'Well, okay I guess.' They said, 'No, we'll work with you again, we're gonna...' That's what happened there."
As for what that runner-up role ended up being, it was too small for Leguizamo and he turned it down. He said: "They offered me something tiny. I went, 'Nuh uh.'"
That’s a shame. While I liked Keaton in the role of The Vulture, it’s not hard to imagine Leguizamo taking it on, he would have been a fun choice as well! It sucks that the studio offered him a crap role after that. But, who knows, maybe one day Marvel will cast him in a future film in a better role!
