John Oliver Cast as Zazu in Jon Favreau's THE LION KING
Jon Favreau has added a new cast member to his live-action adaptation of Disney's The Lion King. According to The Wrap, John Oliver (Community, Last Week Tonight) will lend his voice to the character Zazu! I've gotta say, that's pretty perfect casting!
Oliver will join the previously cast Donald Glover as Simba, Billy Eichner as Timon, Seth Rogen as Pumbaa and James Earl Jones is awesomely reprising his animated role as Mufasa. There's also a chance that Beyonce will take on the role of Nala. At least that's Favreau's top choice for the role!
In the original animated movie, Zazu was voiced by Rowan Atkinson a.k.a. Mr. Bean. I figured we wouldn't see a lot of people reprise their roles from the original animated film, and that's fine. Favreau has done a great job casting the film so far and I'm looking forward to seeing what how Oliver handles the character and make him his own. He's certainly got the attitude.
The Lion King is set to hit the big screen on July 19, 2019. What do you all think about Oliver playing Zazu?
