John Travolta Cast in AMERICAN CRIME STORY

John Travolta has joined the growing cast of Ryan Murphy’s first season of the American Crime Story anthology series. The show will focus on true crime events throughout history, and the first season will center around O.J. Simpson. It will be called American Crime Story: The People Vs. O.J. Simpson.

Travolta joins the previously cast David Schwimmer as Robert Kardashian, Sarah Paulson — who will portray prosecutor Marcia Clark, and Cuba Gooding Jr. — who is taking on the role of Simpson. According to Variety, Travolta will play Robert Shapiro, who was a key member of Simpson’s “Dream Team” defense team during his murder trial.

The 10-episode season “examines the O.J. Simpson trial as told from the perspective of the lawyers, and is poised to explore the chaotic behind-the-scenes dealings and maneuvering on both sides of the court. More significantly, it will display how a combination of prosecution confidence, defense wiliness, and the LAPD’s history with the city’s African-American community gave a jury what it needed: reasonable doubt.”

The series has managed to bring together an impressive cast of actors who should all be great in the roles that they play. Murphy has a talent for bringing TV series to the screen, and I’m looking forward to seeing how his new project turns out. I’m intrigued by the idea, as crazy true crime stories interest me.

The first season is based on Jeffrey Toobin’s book The Run of His Life: The People v. O.J. Simpson, and production is set to begin this year in Los Angeles.
