John Turturro is Reportedly Filming a BIG LEBOWSKI Spin-Off About Jesus Quintana
John Turturro has been delivering great performances week after week as a disheveled, eczema-riddled lawyer on HBO's crime drama The Night Of (a show with a major problem), but right now he's in the middle of revisiting a character we've seen him play before: pederast bowler Jesus Quintana from The Coen Brothers' cult classic film The Big Lebowski.
Birth.Movies.Death says that Turturro's new movie Going Places, "a remake of a French sex farce, is actually a Big Lebowski spin-off centered around Turturro’s Jesus Quintana character."
The project has already begun filming with a script by Turturro and a cast that includes Bobby Cannavale, Audrey Tautou, and Susan Sarandon. The film, which currently has no distributor (thus making it an indie in the realest sense), takes its plot from the 1974 comedy Les Valseuses: two petty thieves, Turturro’s Jesus and Cannavale’s Petey, compete to give a woman (Tautou) her first orgasm after she’s roped into their hijinks. Sarandon also ends up in their company, playing a criminal who just got out after a long stint in prison.
There's no word yet about whether the film is set in modern day, or perhaps closer to the events we saw depicted in The Big Lebowski, but Turturro has been talking about making a sequel/spin-off for years, and it looks like he's finally made his dream come true. The report says they're a week or two into filming in New York, so I'd expect us to be able to see the film sometime next year.
