JOHN WICK: CHAPTER 3 Story Details Teased By Director Chad Stahelski
We can't get enough of John Wick, and now only a couple weeks ahead of the Blu-Ray release of John Wick: Chapter 2 we're learning more about the third installment of the Keanu Reeves action series. Collider spoke with John Wick: Chapter 2 director Chad Stahelski about the home release, when he spoke about the status of John Wick 3. He said they are currently writing it and hope to start shooting by the end of this year or beginning of next.
Stahelski said they have a clear direction of where they want the story to go.
“We want, not so much to go bigger on the third one, but to show you more of the intricacies of the world… I feel like there are all these different subtleties that I skipped over in Number Two, that I’d like to go back to on [chapter three] and show you the inner workings of different parts of New York. So rather than massive set pieces, I’d like to show you cooler and more intricate ones… I think it would be a mistake budget wise and creatively to just go big and blow up a freeway. That’s not our gig. That’s a comic book or a Bond gig. We want to show you cool and intricate details. What are those little details in everyday life? Hopefully – we make people look at garbage collectors and cleaner vans and homeless people a little differently now.”
But it hasn't been decided yet if Stahelski will direct the third movie. He co-directed John Wick with David Leitch, but Leitch went solo to direct Charlize Theron in Atomic Blonde instead of returning for Chapter 2. Stahelski says he’s “super involved” with the John Wick 3 for now, and would love to direct it but time will tell.
Stahelski is now attached to the Highlander reboot and Leitch is busy with Deadpool 2, so it doesn't seem very likely that either will helm this third installment.
I loved both movies and would like to see a third. What do you guys think? Would you hate to see the franchise be directed by someone else?
