JOHN WICK: CHAPTER 5 Officially Moves Forward and Keanu Reeves Will Return!
Well, it’s officially offical! John Wick isn’t done killing people. Lionsgate just confirmed at CinemaCon that John Wick: Chapter 5 is happening, and yes, Keanu Reeves is coming back from the dead. Also back are director Chad Stahelski and producers Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee, keeping the original team locked and loaded.
This announcement came during Lionsgate’s big CinemaCon event in Las Vegas, where they made it very clear they’re all in on the Wick-verse, which includes an animated project, and another spinoff, with a Donnie Yen-directed Caine movie is now in the pipeline.
John Wick: Chapter 4 hauled in over $440 million worldwide, and each film has managed to outperform the one before it, which is a rare feat. The entire franchise has cracked the $1 billion mark globally, and with spinoffs like Ballerina (out June 6) and a new TV series John Wick: Under the High Table in development, this universe is nowhere near running on empty.
Still, Lionsgate says this isn’t about just squeezing out more content. There’s a story they want to tell, and apparently, it’s one worth bringing the whole crew back together for.
As Lionsgate’s Motion Picture Group Chair Joe Drake said, “Keanu, Chad, Basil, and Erica would not return unless they had something truly phenomenal and fresh to say with these characters and this world. We can’t wait for audiences to see where the journey takes us next.”
Producers Iwanyk and Lee echoed that: “It’s so important to get this story right and give John’s story the proper next step. It’s exciting to take the first step on that road.”
So, yeah, as expected, John Wick isn’t dead. He’s just reloading. I guess Keanu Reeves’ knees have healed from the last movie.
