John Woo Is Remaking His 1989 Action-Thriller THE KILLER for Peacock

Director John Woo has been planning a remake of his classic 1989 action thriller The Killer for years, and thanks to Peacock, he’s getting the opportunity to develop this “reimagining” of the film. The original film is an awesome all-time classic, and it will be interesting to see what exactly Woo has in store for this updated version of the movie that he’s been wanting to make.

A press release said, “Peacock announced today three upcoming original films scheduled to premiere on the service in 2023. Each film is part of the previously announced collaboration with Universal Pictures to produce a number of films made exclusively for Peacock.”

As part of that Peacock/Universal collaboration, “Celebrated action auteur John Woo returns to reimagine and direct his own classic, The Killer.”

The original movie starred Chow Yun-Fat as Ah Jong, “a disillusioned assassin who accepts one last hit in hopes of using his earnings to restore vision to a singer he accidentally blinded.” I included the trailer below for you to watch.

Kelly Campbell, President, Peacock and Direct-to-Consumer and International, NBCUniversal said in a statement, “We know people join Peacock to watch movies, so we are constantly adding more to serve fans. Together with the Universal Filmed Entertainment Group, we are excited to deliver fresh, exclusive, original films next year to our customers in addition to the legendary Universal Pictures blockbuster films and beloved franchises streaming now.”
