Johnny Depp Makes Surprise Appearance at San Diego Comic-Con as EBENEZER to Promote His Holiday Film
The stars are out early this year at San Diego Comic-Con. To promote Johnny Depp’s upcoming film, Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol, Paramount Pictures set up a faux 1880s British Christmas village in San Diego’s Gaslamp district, and the three-time Oscar nominee surprised the crowd when he emerged from the door of the installation.
They shouted questions and offered salutations, including “Good day to you, Mr. Scrooge.” He responded in full character, “What’s so good about it?”
The stunt began with Victorian carolers emerging singing Christmas songs, after which Depp-as-Scrooge appeared in the window of the mock storefront. He then emerged from the door. Later, another character in Dickensian period garb began asking him about fair wages, which drew only grumbles from Scrooge.
After some interaction, Depp quietly said “Humbug” to the crowd. What a treat for fans who happened to be at the right place at the right time!
