Johnny Depp to Voice Lead Character in Upcoming Animated Short Series PUFFINS
Johnny Depp is set to take on the lead role in an upcoming short-form animated series called Puffins. Depp will play the character Johnny Puff in the show that will make 250 5-minute episodes “that follow the adventures of a group of cute birds, who are the servants of the wily walrus Otto.” According to producers, Iervolino Entertainment, the series is looking to “promote positive messaging by weaving in themes such as gender and race equality and environmental protection.”
Depp recently teamed with the production company to make the film Waiting for the Barbarians alongside Robert Pattinson. Company owner Andrea Iervolino talked about reteaming with Depp in a statement:
“We’re so happy to reunite with Johnny for a second project. Experiencing a new and avant-garde project like this short series, alongside Johnny, has given me even more conviction to champion experimental genre and format fusions,” he noted. “I am beyond grateful that Johnny has shown belief in the project … sharing his thoughtful artistic ideas that are providing real added value to the Puffins universe.”
This sounds like it could be a fun series if it hits the mark. I think it’s never too early to have discussions with kids at their level about the things going on in the world, so this series could help parents to start those talks in a way that kids can understand.
Do you think you’ll check out the series Puffins?
