JOKER Director Todd Phillips Tells Fans Not To Worry, "It'll Get Reinvented Again"
While a lot of fans love what they’ve seen from the upcoming movie Joker, there are a few who aren’t sold on it. I’m personally excited to see a new and unique take on the origin of the classic villain. This film is a character study that I think will tell a fascinating story.
Some people wonder what the point is of making a Joker movie without Batman. Well, Joker is such a strong character in the world of DC that he doesn’t necessarily need Batman. And what’s wrong with telling the story of the Joker before he meets Batman? Hell, in this movie Bruce Wayne is only a kid, so Batman doesn’t even exist yet.
Anyway, for the DC fans who don’t like the movie, director Todd Phillips says not to worry because the character will eventually be reinvented again. Here’s what he told Los Angeles Times:
“There are always going to be naysayers, but from what I gather about the momentum of the movie and the response to the teaser we put out, the majority of fans seem to be excited about going down a different road. But also, this will not be the last Joker movie ever made. It might be the last one Joaquin and I do, but someone else is going to come along and do another one, just like with Spider-Man. So if you don’t like this one, don’t worry — it’ll get reinvented again.”
He’s right, lots of comic book characters have been reinvented over the years and will continue to be reinvented. I’ve been hearing great things about Joker, though, from people who have seen it already. Some have said that this will be the best DC film since Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight.
Joker is going to give us a completely different take on Joker, and that’s why I’m excited about it. The creative team was really thinking outside of the box when they made the film, and that’s what makes it so appealing to me.
