Jon Bernthal Joins Damian Chazelle's FIRST MAN About NASA's Mission to Land on the Moon

Jon Bernthal (The Walking Dead, The Punisher) is popping up in just about everything that's great these days. And now Deadline reports he has been cast in the upcoming Damian Chazelle film First Man. The film is about NASA’s mission to land a man on the moon. First Man is looking at a fall shoot and an October release in 2018.

The cast includes Ryan Gosling, who previously worked with Chazelle on La La Land, Corey Stoll (Ant-Man, The Strain), Jason Clarke (Zero Dark Thirty, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes), and Kyle Chandler (Super 8, Friday Night Lights). The movie is written by Academy Award winner Josh Singer (Spotlight).

First Man is based on James Hansen’s biography First Man: A Life Of Neil A. Armstrong, the story of NASA’s mission to land a man on the moon, focusing on Neil Armstrong and the years 1961-1969. Described as “a visceral, first-person account,” the movie aims to explore the sacrifices and the cost—on Armstrong and on the nation—of one of the most dangerous missions in history.

Bernthal will play Dave Scott, one of the astronauts in the manned space program who was a pilot and partner of Armstrong on Gemini VIII mission.

Jon Bernthal is known for his work in films like Baby Driver as well as playing Shane in the TV series The Walking Dead and of course, who could forget, his role as Frank Castle/Punisher in the Marvel/Netflix series Daredevil, a role that he will reprise in the upcoming solo show, Marvel’s The Punisher.

First Man is set to hit theaters on October 12, 2018.
