Trailer for Jon Bernthal's HBO Limited Series WE OWN THIS CITY From the Creator of THE WIRE
HBO has released a new trailer for their limited series We Own This City, starring Jon Bernthal. The story is based on the nonfiction book of the same name by Baltimore Sun reporter Justin Fenton. “The series details the rise & fall of the Baltimore Police Department's Gun Trace Task Force and the corruption surrounding it. It's set after the 2015 Baltimore riots and focuses on Sargent Wayne Jenkins - entrusted with fixing the city's drug and gun crisis, he chose to exploit it instead.”
The series comes from David Simon the creator of The Wire and his frequent collaborator George Pelecanos. The series also stars Josh Charles, Wunmi Mosaku, and Jamie Hector, along with Dagmara Dominczyk, Treat Williams, McKinley Belcher III, and Rob Brown.
The series is directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green (Monsters and Men, Joe Bell, King Richard), from a script written by George Pelecanos, David Simon, D. Watkins, and Ed Burns.
Here’s the synopsis:
Executive produced by George Pelecanos (The Deuce) and David Simon (The Wire) -- and based on the book by Baltimore Sun reporter Justin Fenton -- We Own This City is a six-hour, limited series chronicling the rise and fall of the Baltimore Police Department's Gun Trace Task Force. It examines the corruption and moral collapse that befell an American city in which the policies of drug prohibition and mass arrest were championed at the expense of actual police work.
This looks like an excellent series. I love true crime, and though the subject matter is tough, this is an important story, and I’m excited to check it out. Watch the trailer below, and watch We Own This City on HBO and HBO Max starting on April 25th.
