Jon M. Chu to Direct Disney's Live-Action LILO & STITCH Movie

Disney is moving forward with a live-action adaptation of Lilo & Stitch, and Jon M. Chu (G.I. Joe: Retaliation, Crazy Rich Asians) is in talks to direct.

We don’t know yet if Disney is planning to release this theatrically or if it will go straight to Dsiney+. But there’s no doubt that a lot of the fans of the original film will be excited to see how a live-action version of this fantastic story turns out.

I love Lilo & Stitch; it’s a favorite Disney film of mine, and while I’m a little tired of seeing Disney make live-action films out of their classic animated content, I am curious to see what the creative team ends up doing with this movie.

Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich of Rideback, which is the company that recently produced Disney’s Aladdin remake, are producing the movie.

The original 2002 film was written and directed by Chris Sanders and Dean DeBlois, and the story followed a 6-year-old Hawaiian girl Lilo and her teenage sister Nani, who adopt a blue extraterrestrial creature nicknamed Stitch.
