Jon Favreau Addresses Whether Fans of THE MANDALORIAN Can Expect to See Mando and Grogu on the Big Screen

Jon Favreau’s series The Mandalorian is one of the best stories to come out of the Star Wars franchise. It’s been a fan favorite since its debut in 2019, and viewers are anticipating the continuation of the show for a solid few more seasons. But could the story ever translate to a big screen film?

Favreau was asked this in a recent sit down with Variety, and he responded:

“There’s always an opportunity when you have a set of characters and stories that people connect with that you could cross media into different areas. Marvel does it quite effectively. It’s just a matter of where our time should be spent and what the appetite of the audience is. With all these stories we’re telling, it definitely is a full-time job just keeping this going with what we’re doing now. Television has a much different rhythm and schedule than film does.”

I feel like the long form of a TV series suits the show, and unless they had one epic story to tell, like in finishing out the series or something, they should just stick with the show. Why mess with a good thing?

Favreau also talked a bit about the upcoming series, Skeleton Crew, created by Marvel’s Spider-Man director Jon Watts, which Favreau is executive producing. Jude Law stars in the series, which is a Spielberg-esque coming-of-age story set in the same Mandalorian era. Skeleton Crew is scheduled to air this year, but unlike Boba Fett and Ahsoka, the characters will not first appear in The Mandalorian.

“Each storyteller brings their own personality to it. The groups that are working on [‘Skeleton Crew’] are led by Jon Watts, whom I collaborated with on all the ‘Spider-Man’ movies. This has been a real fun time and the great filmmakers that he’s engaged with have been bringing their perspectives as well.”

The Mandalorian returns with the first episode of Season 3 on March 1st on Disney+, and Skeleton Crew will hit the streamer later this year.
