Jon Favreau Praises STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS for Delving into Several Different Genres of Storytelling
The Mandalorian creator Jon Favreau has been talking a lot lately about the future of the Star Wars franchise, which includes his own series, as well as the stories of Ahsoka, and The Book of Boba Fett, which we will see merging into a future feature film, as well as the upcoming Skeleton Crew and other exciting projects.
As a lifelong fan of the franchise, Favreau could talk forever about the history of the films and shows, but he recently set his sights on praising the series Star Wars: The Clone Wars. While speaking on the Dagobah Dispatch podcast, Favreau talked about how the series jumped between genres and said that this quality is what keeps him working on the franchise.
“Especially on The Clone Wars, they deviated into many different [genres] — to thrillers and to noir and different types of adventures and different tones. So that’s what’s keeping us engaged and why I’m continuing my collaboration here, is because it’s never like you’re just doing one thing. There’s always room.”
Depending on the story you’re telling in Star Wars, the universe is so expansive, and each director has a different vision and voice, making every project feel like it could be a different genre. Favreau expressed this sentiment, saying:
“When people think of Star Wars as a genre, it really is a number of subgenres within the Star Wars genre. Because those were [George Lucas’] influences, so it could feel like a Western, it could feel like a World War II film, it could feel like a samurai film. And so you could push limits.”
I guess that’s why 46 years later, the Star Wars universe is still expanding and moving forward in exciting ways. What show or project are you most looking forward to under the Star Wars banner?
