Jon Favreau Reveals the Surprisingly Long Length of Time Grogu Was With Luke in THE MANDALORIAN

When we left off in the Season 2 finale of the hit Star Wars series The Mandalorian, we saw the triumphant arrival of Luke Skywalker, who had come to retrieve Grogu and train him in the ways of the force. We then saw the pair again in The Book of Boba Fett, where Mando found them and Luke gave Grogu the choice between staying with Skywalker to further his knowledge and training, or returning to his friend. Grogu chose Mando, and that’s where we will pick up in their journey when Season 3 begins.

While it didn’t seem like a lot of time had passed between Grogu leaving Mando and their reunion, the show’s creator, Jon Favreau, has clued us in to the time jump that was actually between those scenes.

While speaking at a round table discussion for the new season of the series (via CB), Favreau talked about Grogu, revealing:

"He is somebody who has spent time in both worlds. We know that he started off earlier in Jedi temple. We've seen flashbacks that speak to that and then we know that he's been rescued and spent many years with The Mandalorian. Went back with Luke [Skywalker]. Now we've been two years apart from him there training. What's interesting is that as he chooses his friend The Mandalorian because he's developed an attachment it's interesting how that echoes in a way Luke's path when he was drawn to the attachment of his friends and how that helped shaped the future."

While it was really cool to see Grogu get picked up by Luke, it was terribly sad to see him say goodbye to the caretaker he had grown so attached to. Their bond is unbreakable, and it seemed inevitable that they’d be reunited. It’s awesome to hear that he got in two years of training though! I bet that will come in handy in their new adventures.

The Mandalorian Season 3 will begin streaming exclusively on Disney+ on March 1st.
