Jon Favreau Says THE BOOK OF BOBA FETT Will Explore The "Power Vacuum Because Jabba is Gone"
The next live-action Star Wars series to be released is The Book of Boba Fett, it’s coming next month, and producer Jon Favreau is offering up some additional insight regarding the story that the series will tell. One of the main things it will explore is the power vacuum that was left behind with Jabba The Hutt gone.
In an interview with Empire, Favreau shared, “There is a power vacuum because Jabba is gone. Jabba was clearly a very strong and imposing leader, who people were very scared of, and who seemed to rule with an iron fist. You pull somebody like that out of the ecosystem of Tatooine – and Hutt Space in general – and you have the opportunity that’s ripe in the gangster genre.”
Boba Fett is obviously coming in to properly fill that void and take over the criminal underworld in the Star Wars universe. I’m sure he’ll be facing off with various kinds of scum and villainy to hold on to the power that he is looking to attain. Of course, he’ll accomplish this with the help of Fennec Shand.
Favreau goes on to say, “Although Boba Fett is a very experienced bounty hunter, he’s not experienced at running a criminal syndicate or managing forces. He’s not normally a newcomer. He’s an expert as we see him in most areas. But in this case, he’s trying to transition to another position.”
It’s going to be really fun and interesting to see Boba Fett in the process of making this transition. Producer and director Robert Rodriquez went on to say, “We’ll see a lot more of his true character in this season, and you’ll definitely see him have to turn ‘barbarian mode’.”
The Book of Boba Fett tells “a thrilling Star Wars adventure teased in a surprise end-credit sequence following the Season 2 finale of The Mandalorian, finds legendary bounty hunter Boba Fett and mercenary Fennec Shand navigating the galaxy’s underworld when they return to the sands of Tatooine to stake their claim on the territory once ruled by Jabba the Hutt and his crime syndicate.”
The Book of Boba Fett stars Temuera Morrison and Ming-Na Wen. The series is executive produced by Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni, Robert Rodriguez, Kathleen Kennedy, and Colin Wilson. Karen Gilchrist and Carrie Beck serve as co-executive producers, with John Bartnicki producing and John Hampian as co-producer.
The first episode of the series will drop on Disney+ on December 29th.
