Jon Favreau Would Love to Make a New STAR WARS Holiday Special

Star Wars fans like to trash on and joke about the 1978 Star Wars Holiday Special. It was certainly a delightful and super bizarre moment in Star Wars history. Well, The Mandalorian writer and producer Jon Favreau loves the holiday special and he would love to do another one!

While talking with ET Online, the filmmaker explained that he is the guy pitching a new holiday special to Disney and Lucasfilm:

“I was the one who was bringing The Holiday Special to the table, that’s my generation. I love The Holiday Special — certain sequences more than others — but I love the introduction of Boba Fett and that rifle that he had. That animated piece still holds up. It’s pretty cool. I draw inspiration from that.”

One thing that the original holiday special did that fans will also be grateful for is the introduction of Boba Fett in animated form. That was awesome. I even have a statue of that version of the character because I loved and appreciated it so much. Favreau went on to say:

"I would love to do a Holiday Special. If you want to see a Holiday Special, let Disney+ know."

So, if a new holiday special did happen, Disney+ is the place where it would air. You know, just because the original holiday special was a beautiful mess, doesn’t mean that a new one would be. I’d actually be very curious to see what Favreau would do with a Star Wars Holiday Special!

What do you think!? Would you like to see Favreau make a new Star Wars Holiday Special?

George Lucas is commonly quoted as saying that if he had the time and a hammer, he would personally "smash" every bootlegged copy of the disastrous "Star Wars Holiday Special." However, fans almost universally agree that the best part of the much-maligned Wookie-centric variety show is the Nelvana-produced cartoon segment, directed by Clive Smith.
