Jonah Hill and Emma Stone To Star in New TV Series For TRUE DETECTIVE's Cary Fukunaga
Looks like a Superbad reunion is brewing. THR reports that Emma Stone and Jonah Hill (who both got their big breaks in the Greg Mottola-directed comedy) are set to star in a new TV series for Beasts of No Nation director Cary Fukunaga, who made a big splash directing all of the episodes of the first season of HBO's critically acclaimed True Detective.
Described as a dark comedy that's based on a 2014 Norwegian series called Maniac, the show "revolves around Espen, a mental patient at the psychiatric ward who escapes reality and lives in a fantasy world in his mind." The search for a writer is underway, and the plan is for Fukunaga to direct every episodes of this show, which is hoping to snag a two-season pickup right out of the gate. Stone and Hill would executive produce alongside the director.
Here's the trailer for the Norwegian version. It's easy to see how Fukunaga could contrast some stunning visuals with the depressing interiors of a psych hospital:
