Jonah Hill Has Turned Down the Role of a Villain in THE BATMAN

Rumors have been swirling around the casting of director Matt Reeves’s The Batman ever since it was announced. Robert Pattinson is firmly in place as the Caped Crusader, and we know Jeffrey Wright (Westworld) is in the role of Commissioner Gordon. We heard earlier this week that Zoe Kravitz (Big Little Lies) is taking on Selina Kyle, aka Catwoman. So now we need a villain.

For the last month or so, the rumor has been that Jonah Hill (Superbad, Maniac) was in talks to join the cast and take on the role of one of the villains that is said to appear in the film, either Penguin or Riddler. Fans were quick to assume he would take on the Penguin role, as that is more suited to his stature, but we thought it could go either way, and I thought he would make a good addition to the movie.

We now have official word that Hill has turned down the film and won’t be taking any role. That’s too bad, but Variety reported that sources close to the actor said that he turned down the film very early on in negotiations, and it never got so far as to nail down a character or offer.

So back to the drawing board, and back to finding two actors to fill out the roles of Penguin and Riddler. Who do you think would be a good match for each villainous role?
