Jonathan Frakes Returns To The STAR TREK Franchise To Direct STAR TREK: DISCOVERY

Jonathan Frakes, who is best known for his role of Commander William T. Riker on Star Trek: The Next Generation is returning to the franchise. EW is reporting that he will join Star Trek: Discovery as a director. The news came from writer and producer Gretchen J. Berg, who said:

"Jonathan Frakes will rejoin the Trek world with Discovery. He’s a fantastic guy and great director."

Showrunner Aaron Harberts added, "Our cast is dying to work with him." Frakes is no stranger to directing episodes of Star Trek. He directed several episodes of The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, and Voyager. He also directed the film First Contact, which was awesome, and Insurrection. He directed several non-Star Trek projects as well for shows such as Burn Notice, Roswell, and more.

Frakes is a great addition to the Discovery creative team and it's cool that they brought him on to help develop the series as a director.

Star Trek: Discovery is set on a new ship and will follow new characters who embark on new adventurous missions while embracing the same ideology and hope for the future that inspired a generation of dreamers and doers. The trailer came with the tagline, "Before Kirk, Spock and the Enterprise there was Discovery".
