Jonathan Majors Set to Star in DA UNDERSTUDY with Spike Lee Possibly Directing
Jonathan Majors is set to star in and produce the upcoming film project Da Understudy, which is set up at Westbrook Studios and Amazon Studios. Spike Lee is also looking to direct the film, but he hasn’t officially signed on yet.
The script was written by Tom Hanada (Motherland), Zach Strauss (SMILF), and Tyler Cole, and is based on an original story by Cole. Da Understudy tells the story of “life imitating art when the understudy of a Broadway production finds a role he’s willing to kill for.”
Amazon Studios landed the rights to the script after a competitive bidding war among studios. Right now, everyone wants to be in business with Jonathan Majors as he’s one of the most in-demand actors right now. Every role he takes on, he delivers an awesome performance!
This deal comes together after the big opening of Majors’ latest film Creed III, in which he plays Damian Anderson, a childhood friend of Adonis Creed who comes back into Creed’s life to fight him for the world title.
Majors will next start shooting The Man in My Basement, the film adaptation of the Walter Mosley novel. He is also set to star as Dennis Rodman in Lionsgate’s 48 Hours in Vegas.
In addition to Majors, Will Smith, Westbrook Studios Co-President and Head of Motion Pictures Jon Mone and Mike Soccio will produce the film, with Lee and Tyler Cole serving as executive producers.
