Jordan Peele Seems Excited About Exploring the Mythology of US in a Sequel

Jordan Peele is on a roll as a filmmaker, and in my option has made two great horror films so far. I hope that he is able to keep delivering great and unique stories! If he keeps it up, one day we may see him make a film that wins Best Picture.

I know some people don’t share my views on Peele’s work, but I just think the guy is super talented and I’m looking forward to seeing him grow more as a filmmaker. While I’m sure he will continue to deliver great original stories, it sounds like he’s not quite done with his new horror franchise Us.

While talking to Polygon, Peele was asked if he would ever return to the Us-verse and he seemed pretty excited about jumping back into that world saying:

“Sure! It’s a fun one. There’s a lot going on there. The ‘Us-verse’ … I like that.”

He went on to say that when developing the film he also created a whole mythology that could be explored in future films:

“I have the entire mythology of this world because the audience can tell if you don’t. The choice becomes how much of that mythology do you reveal. The line that I’m exploring in this movie is a very difficult line. Some people might want less explanation. Some people might want more explanation. I’m trying to serve whatever your appetite is, but ultimately I’m trying to give enough context to be able to discuss and hypothesize about more. When it’s all wrapped up neatly and perfectly, it alleviates the fear. I don’t want to do it.”

Personally, I would love to have some more of the mythology explained! There’s a whole story there in the background that we don’t know, and I would actually love to have some of my questions answered in a new film. I know a lot of other people feel the same way.

I’m so curious about the world of the Tethered and their past. I’ve seen a lot of people get so hung up on these details that they didn’t like the movie. They wanted all of the answers right away. I personally liked the mystery behind that stuff. It made the movie more enjoyable for me.

If we do end up getting a sequel, or prequel, though, don’t expect Lupita Nyong’o to come back. When asked if she would, she said that was “retired from the Tethered world” and would not come back for a sequel. That’s kind of a shame, but the world is so big that they don’t really have to focus on one group of characters.

Would you like to see Jordan Peele explore the world of the Tethered more in an Us sequel or prequel?
