Jordan Peele's CANDYMAN Reboot is Looking to Cast Lakeith Stanfield in the Lead Role

While producer Jordan Peele and director Nia DaCosta write the script for their reboot of the classic 1992 horror film Candyman, some casting news has surfaced.

SuperBroMovies is reporting that Lakeith Stanfield (Get Out, Sorry To Bother You) is in talks to star in the film as the lead character. That character’s name is Anthony, who is described as a “socially pronounced artist in Chicago who researches the urban legend of Candyman. After investigating the killer’s last known whereabouts, strange killings begin to occur around Anthony. The protagonist will serve a role similar to that of Helen Lyle, the main character of the original movie.”

Stanfield previously worked with Peele on Get Out, so it makes sense that the two would eventually work together again at some point in their careers. Stanfield is a talented actor and it’s good to see him get more and more work. The last movie I saw him in was The Girl in the Spider’s Web.

While I’m not a fan of remakes or reboots, I am a fan of Peele and I just hope that he and his creative team ends up delivering a great and scary new Candyman film. The movie was previously described as being a “spiritual sequel,” and it will be released on June 12th, 2020.
