Jordan Vogt-Roberts Set to Direct a Live-Action MOBILE SUIT GUNDAM Film for Netflix
Netflix is finally moving forward with its plans to make a live-action Mobile Suit Gundam film, and they’ve hired Kong: Skull Island director, Jordan Vogt-Roberts to helm the project. The announcement comes from Netflix’s Twitter account with the following news:
"Grab your Mobile suits! Jordan Vogt-Roberts has been set to direct and produce Legendary’s first-ever live-action feature film version of Sunrise’s GUNDAM for Netflix."
It’s about damn time this movie happened! I’ve been waiting for this film to get make for a long time! The thing is, I want to see this film on the big freakin’ screen! The project has been in development with Legendary Entertainment and Sunrise for a few years now.
Lost and Runaways screenwriter Brian K. Vaughn was previously hired by Legendary to write the script for the film, but I imagine Vogt-Roberts will be diving in and helping him out.
When previously talking about the project, Sunrise President Yasuo Miyakawa said that Sunrise has maintained almost all of the control over the film adaptation. That control was a requirement for Sunrise to agree to the project. Legendary will act as an active collaboration on the project. Netflix, will be distributing the film.
I like the films that Vogt-Roberts has made, which also includes The Kings of Summer, and I think he’ll do some great things with bringing this Gundam movie to life. What do you think about Vogt-Roberts directing this long-awaited film project?
