Joseph Gordon-Levitt to Voice Lead Character in THE WIND RISES

Joseph Gordon-Levitt is back in the news! It was recently announced that he might possibly star in and direct Neil Gaiman's Sandman. Now it has been revealed that he will be lending his voice to the English version of Hayao Miyazaki‘s final film, The Wind Rises

Gordon-Levitt is part of a great voice cast, which also includes his Looper co-star Emily Blunt and her husband John Krasinski, as well as Martin Short, Stanley Tucci, Mandy Patinkin, William H. Macy, Werner HerzogMae Whitman, Jennifer Grey, Darren Criss, Elijah Wood, and Ronan Farrow

The historical fantasy casts Gordon-Levitt as Jiro Horikoshi, a young Japanese boy in the early 20th century who dreams of flying with the birds and meeting Italian plane designer Giovanni Caproni (Tucci). Jiro can't become a pilot due to his poor vision, but as he grows up he becomes an aeronautical engineer who designs the fighter planes that the Japanese would ultimately use during World War II — and has to deal with the emotional consequences of his role in the destruction.

Disney will give the movie a limited release in the U.S. on February 21st and will expand wide a week later.
